JUNE'S SIMPLY PAPER DESIGN CHALLENGE.....

I am a little late on posting this, but what's new, huh? This is my first card as part of the Simply Paper Design Team. You can find the sketch/colors and Cindy's card here. I love the flower stamp Cindy used from the Because I Care stamp set (now retired). And that satin ribbon is just gorgeous!!! Debbie is being fashionably late, so I will link hers when Cindy posts it.

Here is my card. I really wanted to use some of my new stuff that I received with my pre-order from the new SU! catalog. It went into effect yesterday, so I am getting my wish list together. It has some great new stamp sets and accessories that I can't wait to get ahold of. But I digress --- back to the card. I used the new Lace Ribbon Border punch and added some pearls to the centers to class it up a bit. I stamped color on color using the Delicate Doilies stamp set and layered them using dimensionals, finishing it off with a pearl for the center. I love how this stamp set coordinates with the punches, making it easy to cut the shapes out. The Basic Gray one is punched using the solid or first layer of the Doily Triple Layer punch. It was a little tricky trying to figure what to line up where, but I finally got what I wanted. The sentiment is from the Watercolor Trio set (retired) and is layered with the oval, scalloped oval and decorative label punches. Again, I added pearls. Too much???

A LITTLE INSTRUCTION......

I received a comment on my former post here, which is the card shown, asking for a few instuctions on how I did it. It was a CASE from here, but she didn't have any instructions either. So let me see if I can remember how I did it.

The black part of the penguin was punched out using the Owl Builder punch and then, although it sounds cruel, you cut off the feet and ears. The white part is also a piece from this punch, as are the feet that are punched out of Pumpkin Pie cardstock. When you do the feet, cut up into the body so that you can keep the feet together and have some material to put adhesive on to attach it onto the back of the body. The nose is just a free cut triangle, also out of Pumpkin Pie. The heart is the smallest heart from the Heart to Heart punch. The hat is stamped from the soon to be retired Party Hearty set and is cut out and popped up on a dimensional. A shiny rhinestone is added to the top for good measure. The balloons are circle punches with the owl feet added to the bottom to look like the end that you tie up. I used the Linen Thread for holding the balloons. You add a couple of googley eyes (the only thing I did not get from SU!) and you have a party penguin ready to shake his (or her) groove thing.

The sentiment is punched out with the retired Key Tag punch and mounted on top of the Decorative Label punch, with a couple of more rhinestones added to each side. The DSP used is the retired Sweet Always --- love that paper!!! A piece of ribbon is added to cover up the seam. I think that about covers it. BUTTERFLY, BUTTERFLY....

Wow, time has flew by. I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day holiday. I had this ready to post last week, but never actually clicked the "Publish Post" button. This was what I did for the May 21st weekend's Little Debbie challenges. I did the sketch & color challenge all in one card. The sketch challenge chosen can be found here. The color combo can be found here. I love these colors together. This could easily be used for a sympathy or thinking of you card, as well as a birthday card. The only ink used on this is a little of the Baja Breeze that was sponged onto the Whisper White oval. Everything else is punches & Big Shot dies. This was the first time I have used the butterfly die and, I have to say, I love it!!!! They are just so pretty with the embossed designs. You get that cool 3D look when you bend the wings up, it really makes the card.

THE OLD BOX IN A BAG ROUTINE.....

It's the end of another school year (YAY!!!!) and I need to show the teachers my appreciation for their patience in not beating my children at school (just kidding, we all know none of that stuff goes on anymore --- not even where it is needed...). I tossed around several projects in my head, but ended up settling on the Box in a Bag, in which I will stuff little goodies. I went by a tutorial by Diana Gibbs on Splitcoast Stampers here, but check out her blog here, too. This was, of course, the lazy way out for me, since all of the other ideas would have required much more effort on my part. But I must say, I am glad I did these. I think they turned out great. I used the Sweet Pea DSP (retired, sadly) on all of these, but they all turned out having their own "personality". Here they are:

This one is decorated using the Sweet Pea stitched felt flowers and using the Eyelet Border punch for around the bottom and tied up with Pretty in Pink satin ribbon.

For this one, I punched out an Extra Large Fancy Flower to go behind my Extra Large Two-Step Bird sitting on a branch (the branch is part of the punch). For the base, I used the Scallop Trim border punch. I used Old Olive satin ribbon to close this one.

I, again, used the Extra Large Fancy Flower punch along with the 5-Petal Flower and one of the flowers from the Boho Blossoms punch all held together with a pumpkin pie corduroy button. The Pinking Hearts Border punch was used to fancy up the bottom. This is topped with chocolate (chip satin ribbon, that is).

I love punches --- can you tell? This one has the regular & Large Stars cascading down the front to the Scalloped border bottom. The pumpkin pie striped grosgrain ribbon is what was used to close this one up. Who knew orange would become one of my favorite colors?
